Birthday 1.0
Shareware. Unregistered version.
(C) 1991 Douglas Kennedy, 620 Highland Ave., Lehigh Acres, FL 33936
Program must be registered if used after thirty (30) days.
Registration $5 in United States currency.
Remote Access and RA are copyrights of Andrew Milner and Continental
Software.
WHAT BIRTHDAY DOES AND HOW TO USE IT
------------------------------------
Birthday reads your RA user files and complies a list of all
birthdays for the next month. When you run Birthday there are
several options you have. Basically there are two functions of
birthday. First is a maintaince function to compile the list of
birthdays for the month. This is done by typing BIRTHDAY m y to compile
list using users real names or BIRTHDAY m n to use users handles. The
other function is to show the list. To view the list type
BIRTHDAY s [port]. Where port is the port your modem is hooked up to
(COM1, COM2, etc.). You can also type CON as the port to see what is
being put through the modem.
BDAYTM.DAT
----------
The file that is created by BIRTHDAY (bdaytm.dat) is a text file.
This file contains the list of people who have birthdays in the current
month. If you edit this file you must leave the program by Douglas
Kennedy AND the unregistered version notice in the text file. As long
as these two notices are in the text file you may change it in any way
you want. You may not copy the list of users to another file and display
it without the having both notices in the copied file.
DISPLAYING BDAYTM.DAT/MAINTANENCE
---------------------------------
BDAYTM.DAT may be displayed using BIRTHDAY or by calling an RA
menu function. The suggested function to use is either type 45 or
type 46. One of the easiest ways to update and display Birthdays this
month is to create a nightly event that shells to DOS and runs
BIRTHDAY with the appropriate switches. If you are unsure how to
create an event, check your mailer or BBS documentation. The command
switch to create a short ASCII file of those people with birthdays
in the present month is BIRTHDAY m y . Then rename the file and
copy it to your text file area. See below for an excerpt of a
working batch file.
:BDay
Birthday m y <--- Assuming Birthday.exe is in the \RA directory
Copy Bdaytm.Dat D:\RA\TXTFILES\BDAYTM.ASC <--- copy file to directory
DEL Bdaytm.Dat <--- Delete original so it can be displayed
Goto Start <--- Reload the mailer or BBS
To display the text file simply setup a menu type 45 with BDAYTM in
the data field. To force an update of the monthly list run LASTCHG.EXE.
This updates the date of the last change to 3/88.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
You need to have USERS.BBS and USERSXI.BBS in the same
directory as the Birthday program. Having PATH = [path where your
*.BBS files are located] in your autoexec.bat file will also work.
If RA runs on your computer this should also run as long as enough
memory is available (about 10K should be plenty).
